| The wound,
ostomy and continence clinic provides an additional
service to the specialty clinic. This clinic is designed
to assist individuals with specific health related
conditions involving wounds, bowel diversions such
as ileostomies or colostomies and urinary incontinence.
The quality of life is greatly affected by individuals
who encounter health problems with wounds, ostomies
and incontinence. This specialty clinic of Mercy Medical
Center is aimed at improving the quality of life of
persons with these specific health concerns. Individuals
who seek this service receive quality care with the
latest treatment options.
The clinic is staffed by an advance practice nurse
who has successfully met the criteria and passed examinations
to become certified in the areas of wound, ostomy and
continence care. A nurse who certified in this area
has received both classroom training and 50 hours of
clinic training in each area of focus. This individual
is considered an expert in the areas of wound, ostomy
and incontinence care.
Marcia Knutson, ARNP, CNS- G, CWOCN has over 26 years
of nursing experience. She has been affiliated with
Mercy Medical Center- New Hampton for the majority
of her career. Marcia’s previous experience has
included medical –surgical nursing, education,
clinical and administrative management and home health
care.
Marcia has been certified as a clinical nurse specialist
in gerontology since 2000. She holds a master of science
in nursing degree from Winona State University and
is certified in gerontology by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center. Marcia is licensed as an advance
practice nurse in Iowa. She also has completed training
for wound ostomy and continence nurse from Metropolitan
State University in St. Paul, MN. Marcia then attained
subsequent certification in wound, ostomy and continence
nursing from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Certification
Board.
