life support
- Basic Life Support Renewal
This class must be taken within 30 days of expiration
Mercy provides regular CPR certification and renewal
classes taught by certified American Heart Association
Instructors.
Mercy reserves the right to reschedule or cancel
if there are not enough participants.
All classes will be held at Mercy Medical Center
- New Hampton in the Health Education Center.
All participants must be registered 48 hours
prior to the class.

Diabetes is a chronic illness that requires care, treatment,
and education that integrates all aspects of a person’s
life.
Research shows that people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
need ongoing self-management education to succeed in
coping with the disease. Our national and state certified
outpatient diabetes education program was developed
to help you as part of your diabetes team.
Mercy Medical Center - New Hampton offers counseling
and education on a one-to-one basis. If you have been
diagnosed with diabetes or have some of the symptoms
listed above and would like some help, please contact

Mercy cares about you and your new baby. We want to
be there for you and help you adjust to your new role
in life. We provide education and support throughout
your whole pregnancy. And if you have any questions,
the nurses are here to answer them for you. Our classes
include:
- Prenatal / Childbirth Education Class
- Prenatal/Childbirth class is for mothers-to-be and
a labor support person. The program includes information
on prenatal nutrition, exercise, labor and delivery,
c-section, Lamaze breathing and relaxation techniques,
medication, infant feeding and care, and adapting
to parenthood. The classes are held on weekdays
from 6:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for three weeks. Cost is $50.00
per couple. It is suggested that you register for
this
class by your fourth month of pregnancy.
- Childbirth Refresher Class
- Childbirth Refresher class is offered to review mothers-to-be
on labor & delivery and Lamaze techniques. This
Refresher class meets the last 2 classes of the regular
class and is available to mothers who have completed
a childbirth class in the past and a support person.
Cost is $35 per couple.
- Sibling Class
- The sibling class is held in March, June and October.
It is to help siblings adjust to the new baby. We
ask that the siblings be at least 3 years of age.
This class is free of charge and will last 1-½ hours.
- Breastfeeding Class
- This will be offered as a fourth class following the
Prenatal/Childbirth Education Class.

The Goals of the Parent/Child Connection include:
- To foster positive family interactions and
relationships
- To enable parents to receive FREE, quality,
family education.
- To provide concurrent sessions for children
ages 5-11 on a related topic
- To provide childcare during the session
- To provide a light family meal (from
6:00-6:30p.m.)
Past topics have included behavior
management, family communication,
sibling rivalry, children's
literature,
how to help your child succeed in school,
teaching manners, conflict resolution,
money management
and character building. The Parent/Child Connection is a grant-funded program.
It is a unique collaboration between the New Hampton
School District, St. Joseph Catholic School, and Mercy
Medical Center-New Hampton. It has been recognized
by the Governor’s FINE (First In the Nation
in Education) Foundation.
Sessions are usually held the second Monday of each
month during the school year from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
at the New Hampton Community Center. (A light family
meal will be served from 6:00-6:30). If you have any

This American Cancer Society program trains volunteers
to provide ambulatory patients with transportation
to and from treatment centers. Chickasaw County currently
has more than 10 "Road to Recovery" drivers.

This class is open to 30 participants 11 years of age
and older. Guest speakers include a local fire chief,
a Chickasaw County Deputy, nursing staff from the
OB and Emergency departments. Registration fee is
$18.00, which covers the cost of instructional materials,
a snack and a sack lunch.
The Goals of the Super Sitters Class include:
- To encourage responsibility of young babysitters
in the basics of child care.
- To promote awareness of safety with children
and in the home.
- To comprehend the basics of first aid.
- To emphasize quality characteristics of a
good babysitter
- To know when and how to call for emergency
assistance (911)
- To encourage healthy babysitting habits.
