The quality of our care is proven by our ability to measure
up to The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of
Healthcare Organization's (JCAHO) rigorous standards.
JCAHO is a government-approved national accrediting
body for health care organizations. Being voluntarily
accredited by the Joint Commission is often known
as receiving the "gold seal of approval."
Specific programs receiving accreditation include
our mammography and laboratory services. In 1992, Mercy
Medical Center - New Hampton became the first community
hospital in Northeast Iowa to receive voluntary accreditation
with the American College of Radiology (ACR). Today,
in addition, the ACR accreditation, the mammography
program has been reviewed and certified by the Iowa
Department of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.
Mercy Medical Center - New Hampton has one of the most
highly regarded mammography programs in rural Northeast
Iowa. In 1992, Mercy became the first rural mammography
program in Northeast Iowa to receive the American
College of Radiology accreditation. Mercy has continued
to receive this exceptional honor every year since.
In order to be accredited by the ACR, hospitals must
comply with the most highly regarded mammography
standards in the country.
In addition, Mercy's mammography program is also accredited
by the Iowa Department of Health (IDH) and the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA).
Quality assurance is one of our top priorities. And
because of this high standard, our laboratory continues
to maintain voluntary accreditation with the College
of American Pathologists (CAP), the world's largest
association of pathologists and a leader in laboratory
quality assurance. The laboratory at Mercy Medical
Center - New Hampton has been CAP accredited every
year since 1981 and is one of only three laboratories
in the Mercy Health Network - North Iowa to have
received this honor. There are about 5,000 CAP-accredited
laboratories nationwide.
