Orthopaedic Surgeon & Physician's Assistant Join Medical Staff

Mercy Medical Center – New Hampton is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Eric Potthoff and Chad Boyer, P.A. to their medical staff.  Dr. Potthoff & Mr. Boyer are orthopaedic specialists from Mason City Clinic who will see patients in the New Hampton Specialty Clinic on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. 

Dr. PotthoffDr. Potthoff is an orthopaedic surgeon concerned with acute, chronic, traumatic and overuse injuries and other disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, tendons and muscles.  He addresses ailments including arthritis, trauma and congenital deformities using both surgical and non-surgical means.  Typical procedures performed by Dr. Potthoff include arthroscopies, carpal tunnel release, knee and hip replacements and repair of fractures.

Dr. Potthoff attended and received his Masters of Science Degree in 1987 from the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He received his Doctor of Osteopatheic Medicine Degree in 1998 from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency in 2003 from the Doctors Hospital of Stark County, in Massillon, Ohio.

Chad Boyer, PAMr. Boyer is devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system.  This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves and allows you to move, work and be active. He cares for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet to young athletes requiring arthoscopic surgery to older people with arthritis and fracture care for people of all ages.

Mr. Boyer received his Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Iowa in 2007 and a Bachelors of Science Degree: Biology Major, LaSallian Honors Minor from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

In addition to routine appointments, Dr. Potthoff will be performing minor orthopaedic surgeries at Mercy Medical Center – New Hampton.  Major surgeries will be performed in Mason City but patients will be able to have their pre and post surgery appointments in New Hampton.  Longstanding orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Val Lyons, who has been serving patients at Mercy Medical Center since 1991 will continue his practice in New Hampton as well.  Appointments can be made by phoning the Mason City Clinic at (641) 422-6630 or toll free 1-800-622-1411.
