Happy Babies: Brought to you by Mercy!

Take a virtual tour of the Birth Center.

“I would highly recommend giving birth at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.  We were very impressed with the nice, comfortable, and secure facility, wonderful nurses, and the excellent care Charlie and I received from the doctors. Being first time parents we were a little nervous, but the nurses and doctors were outstanding. They made us feel at home. I loved the fact that I knew my doctor (Dr. Jack Kline) was the doctor who was going to deliver our baby. I know at bigger facilities you see several doctors because you don't know who will be on call when you deliver. That was important to me as a patient. Charlie and I continue to see Dr. Jack and he is excellent with Charlie. He cares about us as patients and cares about our health. I have never left the clinic feeling like I should have not brought Charlie in. While Dr. Jack is gone we are very comfortable and confident seeing any of the other doctors at Mercy Family Clinic. We feel so blessed to have such a great facility, nurses and doctors so close! When the time is right for Charlie to have a sister or brother we will choose Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.” – J.G.

“We had a great experience delivering at Mercy. Dr Paul delivered Harper and we were very pleased with him. We were very impressed with how much we saw him and how involved he was. It made us feel very comfortable and confident we made the right choice to deliver at Mercy. Also the nurses we had were awesome. They always explained what they were doing and why and really made the experience a positive one.” – B.D.

Bringing a child into the world is one of life’s most exciting events. Mercy Family Clinic – New Hampton physicians Dr. Kline, Dr. Shea Epperly, Dr. John Epperly, Dr. Paul McQuillen, and Dr. Moberly are all trained in operative obstetrics and look forward to making this event as special as you hope it will be.
Mercy Medical Center – New Hampton provides prenatal, labor, delivery, newborn and post delivery care.  The doctors of Mercy Family Clinic provide high quality care in all these areas, including high-risk expectant moms and newborns.

If a patient’s health condition requires a higher level of surveillance, Dr. Stephen Thorn, OB/GYN with Mercy Obstetrics & Gynecology Clinic, works collaboratively with the Mercy Family Clinic providers and routinely sees patients (referral required) at the specialty clinic located at Mercy Medical Center – New Hampton. In many cases this allows a patient’s primary physician to continue to provide care with the cooperation of Dr. Thorn.

The family birth center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by registered nurses who have received specialized training in obstetrical care.  The nurses are certified in advanced cardiovascular life support, pediatric advanced life support, and neonatal resuscitation and are skilled in the stabilization of ill newborns.

All of our nurses are nationally certified in electronic fetal monitoring, which is unique because this is not a requirement in rural hospitals. Being certified in fetal monitoring means nurses are expertly trained in identifying potential complications from a patient’s arrival until discharge from the department. Fetal monitor information can be viewed at the Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa Birth Center, in physician offices at Mercy Family Clinic and securely from the physicians’ homes.

The physicians at Mercy, who perform caesareans, are proud to note only 15% of our newborns have been born via caesarean section. This percentage is far under the national average of 32.8% in 2012.  Should a c-section be necessary, surgical services and anesthesia staff are on-call 24 hours a day.
